A New Season Begins

There’s No Need to Spend Your Time Running

How You Drive Isn’t Everything
September 26, 2012

All the kids have gone back to school and fall is only four days away. The first day of fall is also the second equinox of the year, when the Earth’s axis is not pointed toward or away from the Sun. The leaves will begin to change colors and start falling everywhere, including the roads. It is one of the most beautiful times of the year but once the leaves start falling, especially due to rain, they can become a serious driving hazard. Wet leaves can be slippery, reduce traction and also cover road markings, making it difficult to determine shoulder and lane widths. Falling nighttime temperatures can bring frost to windshields and roads, creating icy patches early morning and refreezing later in the day as temperatures drop again. This freezing/thawing effect also increases the number of potholes on the road, as water contracts and expands in cracks in the pavement, weakening it and eventually leading to a pothole. Now is the time to make sure you vehicle is prepared for the changing conditions; checking tire pressure and tread length, make sure all lights are in working order, reducing speeds in wet or slick conditions, and always making sure your vehicle is covered.

With fall comes the return of football, Halloween, Thanksgiving, cool breezes and plenty of sneezes. The days grow shorter, the nights longer, and pushing those clocks back another hour. It’s a season with a whole lot to enjoy, but plenty to take notice of. Now is the perfect time to review your auto policy. If you have any questions about your policy, contact Duncan Financial Group today to have all those questions answered.
